Story

You are out on tank patrol together with sergeant Loud. You don't like sergeant Loud because he is utterly incompetent and above all, loud.
Suddenly bright lights start appearing in the sky and you are soon surrounded by strange humming sounds.
"Oh dear, it's aliens. What now sarge?"
"SHOOT THE BUG**RS PRIVATE! FIRE! FIRE!"
It doesn't take you long to realise sergeant Loud isn't going to be much help to you if you want to survive.
As you were just on patrol, your tank doesn't have any live ammo. Quickly analysing your navigation chart you spot
a number of ammo depots. If you could just reach the closest one and arm the tank, then you could plot a course
along the other depots back to HQ.
As much as you would like to ditch sergeant Loud somewhere along the way, you know you have to protect him from the
aliens and himself and get him to safety.

Gameplay

You'll be driving a tank on rough ground armed with ground to air missiles, front and rear cannons and chain guns.
There's a depot in the middle of the map at which you can replenish your ammo stock. You'll eventually run out of
ammo if you don't. The game with automatically switch between weapons depending on where you aim and how close the
target is.
The alien craft will fire at you from the air and will regularly drop off troops on the ground at either side of
the map. They will engage your tank when in range and given the chance, try to blow up your depot. Once your depot
is destroyed you may still continue the game but you are likely to run out of ammo before the waves end.
The game will end if your tank gets detroyed or when you have survived the alien waves. With each level the number
of waves will increase in number and frequency.

Not sure yet what opposition there will be. For now it will be alien craft and infantry.

The tank can drive across the hills and the turret will point to where your mouse is. The map extends to the left and right.

Right, short update to let you know my project is still alive.
Had busy weeks and just came back from a few days out with the family in London.
Been drawing sprites mostly and done a bit on game mechanics.

Slowly getting there...
UFO's with flashing lights and green aliens that want to blow up the depot and eventually you.

Here's my alpha version after an hour of hacking it a bit



Aim with your mouse and press left mouse button to fire.
Drive left by holding Q.
Drive right by holding W.

No one can get hurt in this alpha but impacts are detected.
Can't really say it's a game yet either...

It's been a while but I've done some more work. Nicer graphics and glowing particles that should blend nicely. Makes it look a bit spooky I think May do some water reflection at the bottom.
On gameplay I'm still in doubt wether I should do a more classic space invader style. Bit worried that being able to shoot anywhere you target the mouse will make it too easy. Already removed the auto targeting lasers of the ufo's cause it would leave the player with no chance!
